Current events & News - Café Liégeois / Montréal
Belgian master roaster since 1955, Café Liégeois Canada took home this past November the 1st place prize for Belgium-Quebec business ties, having demonstrated an excellent performance this past year respectively in Belgium and/or in Québec. It’s after such an honour that during this month of March, Café Liégeois is happy to have met the King Philippe and the Queen Mathilde of Belgium this month in Ottawa and Montréal. The last official travel by a Belgian official took place 41 years ago, in 1977 by the King Baudouin.
This week began March 12th in Ottawa. Our two associates, Jean-Nicholas Papillon and Camille Dodd had the honour to be invited at the Gala Dinner in Rideau Hall. This event was the occasion to exchange with the King and Queen and to be able to meet with different guests.
March 15th in Montréal, inside the Mont-Royal Chalet, part of our team took place in the Royal cocktail. They were delighted during this evening as sharing and conviviality were the rendez-vous.
To end this royal week, a cheerful concert in honour of their Majesties took place at the Rialto Theater in Montréal. This last event was able to reinforce and celebrate once again the ties between both countries.
Café Liégeois Canada is very proud and honoured to have been able to participate in the historic visit of their Majesties in our country, symbolizing the Canadian-Belgian friendship.
We are very happy to announce the presence of Café Liégeois this March 24th at the Never Apart center for a conference organized by CreativeMornings in Montréal. The conferences will have as a theme the journey of Chris Bergeron, one of the only creative directors to have managed on one hand advertising teams and on the other the pressroom of a recognized media, two completely different environments.
What is CreativeMornings?
CreativeMornings was founded a few years ago in New York and is now renown internationally in over 50 different cities.
It was launched on May of 2013 in Montreal, beginning with a team of 8 people whom shared the same passion: creativity. Formed around Louis-Félix Binette, this team has adopted this concept and organize free conferences on the last Friday of each month. Presenters and speakers are known for their creativity, journey and innovating projects.
As mentioned by one of the coordinators a few years ago in the Métro newspaper: « We are presenting speakers that are out of the ordinary and powerfully rising to expose assistance to certain details which we wouldn’t have seen differently».
Collaboration with our partner CreativeMornings:
Over 250 guests are expected by the coordinators and partners such as VOIR magazine, digital marketing agency Minimal and Lickstats will be present. The experience counts for a lot and that’s why everything is implemented - breakfast, coffee, ambiance, surprises – to properly begin the weekend.
We will be happy to offer the guests with a grain selection by Café Liégeois issued from South America.
This upcoming March 21st and 22nd, Café Liégeois will once again be present at the Salon Hop organized by the Retail Council of Quebec (CQCD). We are very happy to continue our collaboration with one of the most important actors in the sector, once again in partnership with Mobilia in the VIP lounge.
Second participation at Hop :
The top of the retail trade Hop is without a doubt one of the major events in the retail business sector in Quebec. All of the retail community will be present, with partners such as Desjardins Entreprises, Québecor and Jean Coutu. The speakers and exhibitors are selected with care with a common goal: promote the sector and defend the interests of actors within the retail business.
The implication of Café Liégeois :
We are happy to continue our collaboration with CQCD, once again partnered with Mobilia in the VIP lounge. We will be offering our guests our range of Nespresso® 100% compatible capsules and our biodegradable pods. Over 1000 people are expected during these two days of conferences, alongside 50 exhibitors.
Renewal of the « 1 free month» offer!
During the Hop conference we will be offering once again to the guests and exhibitors the possibility to get a coffee tasting and first order at the office! An awesome opportunity to discover our new products and take a responsible path.

Personalized brunch boxes :
The Brunchs de Mathieu is a concept made for brunch deliveries at home or at the office. It’s the result of an assembly of good products crafted by a French chef (Mathieu, obviously!) who’s just arrived in Montréal. Between sweet and salty, everything is possible with Mathieu. For a few months now he has been working very hard with his delivery men in order to serve the four corners of Montréal. Recently, he has also increased his presence in business events, such as this past 6@8 by Jeune Chambre de Commerce de Montréal reuniting over 200 people.
All boxes are available for 18.00$, with the possibility of adding small extras, such as a delicious Café Liégeois poured directly in your cup by the delivery man. You also have assortments options, whether it be sweet or salty; madeleine’s, salty tarts, pastries, crêpes, sausages, waffles, etc. The small treat that impressed us was the Kinder Bueno tiramisu. A true delight!
The combination of good products :
All products are prepared by hand by the chef, apart from the pastries that are from « Croissant Croissant » a pastry shop in Plateau-Mont-Royal, as well as the smoothies created by Elixir Smoothies, also a young Montréal company. Since the beginning of January, Café Liégeois has partnered with Brunchs de Mathieu in order to offer a quality coffee to accompany the different boxes. The future ahead is bright with this new partnership that will also see daylight within the event sector in the next few months.

Finally! The first Neoshop implanted in North America saw daylight yesterday during the official inauguration pleasing many young companies in Quebec. It was also the ideal opportunity for Damien Silès (General Manager) and his team to launch their new digital platform!
A concept from Laval … In France !
The concept of Neoshop boutiques don’t come from here, its from a small town called Laval in the West of France. The first Neoshop opened in 2013 thanks to an initiative from the economic development organization Laval Mayenne Technopole (LMT). As indicated the LMT website as well as Journal de Montréal, Neoshop «is a launching ramp to accompany young businesses during the marketing of their products phase». After setting up an ephemeral shop in Paris last year, the organization wished to export its model everywhere, now they’ve met Montréal.
Developing the market for Quebec start-ups
Operated by our partners at Quartier de l’innovation, the Montréal’s shop goal is to support start-ups from Québec by allowing them to quickly test their product with consumers. Therefore, Café Liégeois will have all of their latest products available in this boutique, such as our bio-compostable capsules this upcoming February. All of the businesses present will benefit from this boutique, allowing them to improve their products (marketing, packaging, design, etc.). All products will also be available online on QI’s new digital platform.
It should be noted, however, that Neoshop should be moving into the old Dow Planetarium, which is under renovation.
At two weeks from the start of the 51st Quebec Summer Games Finals of Montréal (July 17-25 2016), we are pleased to announce our participation in this major event during the month of July. The Café Liégeois products will be available to savour and purchase during the week of competition, and a sponsorship worth 5500$ will be offered to the teams of the Quebec Summer Games.
A major presence for Café Liégeois
The Café Liégeois team will be present at two distinct locations, one at Esplanade Sun Life at the Olympic Stadium and the other at the Claude-Robillard sports complex. The 2016 edition will be the first final of the Quebec Summer Games, which will have a location management rather than a centralized location comparable to the same model as the Pan Am Games and Olympic Games. Over 135 000 people are expected throughout all the sites. The spectators will have the chance to discover espressos, americanos and iced coffees during the weeklong competition.
5500$ sponsorship for the volunteer teams
On top of offering our products to the spectators, Café Liégeois is particularly proud to sponsor the volunteer teams of the Quebec Summer Games. The multi-sport event will bring together over 3000 volunteers, 3700 athletes from 19 regions around Québec alongside 400 officials governing 20 sports. All of the volunteers will benefit from our products during each of their early morning wakeups.
The future of Quebec sports in Montréal
The Quebec Summer Games final is the peak of sporting achievements for Quebec youth. It regroups the best minor athletes from all regions of Québec. The Finals take place in the winter every uneven year and every even year for the summer. The competition has directly touched over 3 million people since the creation of the games in 1970, throughout the Province. It’s a crucial step in the path of an athlete towards the summit of his or her sport. This also allows the youth of Quebec to stay active and motivate them, presenting the sport as a healthy lifestyle, synonym of pleasure!

We’re awaiting you in great numbers to discover the Café Liégeois surprises and to experience our unique coffee stations.
Starting on May 29th, BIXI bikes will be free in Montreal every last Sunday of every month, for the 2016 season. Users will have the opportunity to rent a « one-way » bike for 30 minutes maximum each during their travels within Montreal.
At the end of every month will be the opportunity to celebrate this type of transport, which is growing in popularity year after year. As reported by TVA News, the 2015 BIXI season beat a lot of records: the number of occasional users increased by 91%, the number of memberships reached over 38 000 and the number of trips has reached 3,5 million, which is an increase of 9,4%. This initiative mostly gives the opportunity to the people of Montreal to discover the advantages of BIXI during the summer.
Numerous surprises are also planned during the whole day to make every free BIXI Sunday an unavoidable part of your summer in the streets of Montreal.
Café Liégeois and Rachelle-Béry at Lafontaine Park
The Lafontaine Park will be the main attraction of this first free BIXI Sunday of the season.
Café Liégeois will be the proud sponsor of this event, by the sides of Rachelle-Béry, which will allow the cyclists and anyone who passes by to savour these treats in the heart of Lafontaine Park during that morning. Alongside the BIXI team, they will be able to obtain their coffee from the Café Liégeois team and to discover the various caffeinated flavours during the day.
We are already looking forward to seeing you all this upcoming weekend and to gather around a good cup of coffee.
Café Liégeois is proud to announce that we will be the official service provider of coffee for the 2016 edition of the eCOMMTL show, this upcoming May 19th. Espressos and filtered coffee will be offered during the whole day, thanks to the four stations Café Liégeois has planned for this event. Over 800 people are expected during this exceptional day the Centre des sciences of Montréal, right in the heart of the Old Port. The team of Café Liégeois, supported by volunteers and members of the eCOMMTL team, will be pleased to have you savour our delicious coffee.
An innovative concept for 2016:
For more than 6 years, eCOMMTL brings annually over 500 participants together. This year, a major project frames the event: recreating the 1st commercial center in the heart of an event. As the team of eCOMMTL stated recently on the Internet:
« Each brand is hosting partners and they have been asked to work on the real problems. The day of the event, it wont be a “sales pitch” presented to you, but a demonstration of what these partners have in their mind »
Eight big « brand» partners have engaged themselves with the teams of Stéphane Ricoul and of Jenyfer Maisonneuve. Among them, Best Buy, Desjardins, Espace Jeux.com, IGA, Ricardo, Sail, the SAQ and even Tristan.
eCOMMTL wants this event to be full of life, interactivity and different from the usual shows where one would normally meet people in the business world of Montreal. To stay true to it’s image and the eCOMMTL experience, Café Liégeois will surpass the expectations of the guests by bringing to them an exceptional service, which will satisfy amateurs, as well as coffee professionals.
For the first time, Café Liégeois was promoting towards the community of WeWork for a tasting of espresso coffee in private.
Since Marche 1st, WeWork Montreal allows autonomous workers and companies of all kind to rent workspaces in a central location of Montreal: Place Ville-Marie.
International community for Café Liégeois
WeWork at Place Ville Marie, is a crazy project to not only bring together 1 200 people from the business world to work and collaborate in well thought and designed space.
Therefore we were able to meet the business community in order to present our solutions and espresso coffee to the various present members. The partners to discover and to tie seemed unlimited in this movement that represents 23 cities, 45 000 members at a world scale, with an objective of 300 000 members by 2017.
Great people drinking quality coffee, don’t you think?
JET ends its year in the best of manners with a high level panel for an awaited conference by the passionate entrepreneurs of the world.
Since 2004, the JET committee – Entrepreneurial Youth accompanies HEC Montreal students on the road to entrepreneurship, by organizing events and key activities to better understand the issues of the sector. During the 2015-2016 year, Café Liégeois was partners of the association in order to awaken the student spirits all along the year, creating opportunities of tomorrow around a good Café Liégeois coffee.
« JET’S DRINK » Café Liégeois :

Nicolas Duvernois (Pur Vodka), David Côté (Rise Kombucha) and Bastien Poulain (1642 Cola) shared their experiences in front of a hundred guests, who were from HEC Montreal in the most part. Before the event, the guests had the opportunity to savour our espresso compatible coffee’s with the Nespresso® machines.
